Bhadrachalam Godavari Water Level Today Live Status – Godavari River Crosses 60 Feet Mark

The flood situation in the Godavari river at Bhadrachalam in the district remained grim with rapid rise in the water level in the river on Thursday. The water level in the river, which was flowing above the danger level, crossed the 60-foot mark at 12:00 p.m. At 6 pm, the water level reached 62.20 feet with a flow of 19.29 lakh cusecs. It was the eighth time the river topped the 60-foot mark since 1976.

The bridge over the Godavari at Bhadrachalam was closed to the public due to the flood situation in the river, as a result of which the town of Bhadrachalam was cut off from the outside world. Vehicular movement on roads connecting the city with Chhattisgarh, Odisha and AP came to a standstill due to the floods.The bridge was reportedly closed after a 36-year gap due to flooding, the last time the bridge was closed was in 1986 when a record flood of 75.6 feet was recorded in the river.

Section 144 was imposed in Bhadrachalam and Burgampad mandals to prevent public from entering roads. Movement of people has been stopped and vehicular traffic on the bridge will be restricted for the next 48 hours, said District Collector Anudeep Durishetty.Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar visited the Godavari karakatta and flood rehabilitation centers set up at Sarapaka BPL school and at KGBV Nagineniprolu in Burgampad mandal and interacted with the evacuees.In Burgampad village, the minister asked residents to evacuate immediately as floodwaters are gradually entering the village.

All facilities like good food, drinking water and electricity have been provided in rehabilitation centers for a comfortable stay and people should not risk their lives, he suggested.Ajay Kumar visited the medical camp organized there and inquired about the details of the medicines. If any necessary medicines were needed, the district health officer should be informed immediately and the doctor would procure the medicines, he said.In view of the rising flood in Godavari, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao called the minister over phone and asked him about the situation and the relief measures being taken by the district administration.

Ajay Kumar, who was camping at Bhadrachalam, explained to the Chief Minister that the situation is being closely monitored and all arrangements are being made at the relief center and people have been evacuated from the flooded areas.The Minister informed that there has been an inflow of 30 million cusecs into Godavari from the upper reaches of Godavari and the water level could cross the 70 feet mark in the next 24 hours. Steps have been taken to increase the number of rehabilitation centers to evacuate people in all low-lying areas.
