Constable Death In Goa Atal Setu Accident

In a tragic accident, a 32-year-old police constable was killed in a collision between a car and a tempo on Atal Setu Bridge on Saturday evening.The victim has been identified as Sandeep Naik of Merces. He was attached to the Anjuna police station.

According to Porvorim PI Anant Gaonkar, the accident took place when Naik lost control, jumped the partition and hit the oncoming tempo that was heading towards Porvorim. The impact of this collision was so strong that the victim was thrown from the car and died of severe head injuries.The Porvorim police conducted a panchanam and sent the body to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim for postmortem. The police are still investigating, she said.

It was learned that this was the first fatal accident reported on the Atal Setu Bridge since it was opened to vehicular traffic in January 2019.Two-wheeler killed near AmonaIn another accident reported at the Ponda police station, Madan D’Souza, 25 people from St Cruz died after the two-wheeler they were riding collided with an oncoming tempo at Amona on Saturday.

The crash happened with D’Souza along with single rider Vikas progressing from St Cruz to Sanqueli as the pace picked up in the opposite direction.Pillar rider Vikas was admitted to hospital for treatment. The Ponda police have conducted a panchanama and are conducting further investigations.
